Unmake is developed by Mikael Cedergren. It is a native Mac app for personal reflection and coaching.
Your content
Threads, conversations, notes, milestones, revisions and selected context are stored locally in the app’s Application Support folder. The app maintains one previous local save for recovery. If a file is damaged and you explicitly restore a previous save, the damaged original is preserved separately so recovery remains possible.
Unmake uses Apple’s on-device Foundation Models for replies and distilled notes. Conversation content is not sent to an Unmake server or third-party AI service. Model responses can be inaccurate.
Voice
Voice requires an intentional voice session and microphone/speech permissions. Unmake requires on-device recognition support and does not fall back to remote transcription. Audio is not recorded to files by Unmake. Recognized text is saved as part of your conversation. Apple system speech can speak replies when you enable it.
Optional iCloud sync
If you enable Pro iCloud sync, your content is copied to your Apple Account’s private CloudKit database and synchronized with Unmake on your other devices. Apple operates iCloud according to its own terms and privacy policies. Unmake does not operate a synchronization server.
Disabling sync leaves existing local and iCloud copies in place. When you delete a thread with sync enabled, that deletion propagates after a successful sync; offline devices receive it later. The app keeps content-free deletion identifiers to avoid resurrecting deleted threads. iCloud sync pauses when Pro access expires.
Purchases
Apple handles subscription payment, purchase history and subscription management. Unmake uses verified StoreKit transactions to determine Pro access. The developer does not receive payment card details through the app.
Analytics and advertising
Unmake includes no advertising, third-party analytics SDKs, tracking, or private-content telemetry. Apple may provide platform-level diagnostics according to your system and App Store settings.
Your control
You may export a thread as a readable Markdown file, delete threads, choose whether to enable sync, and revoke microphone and speech permissions in System Settings. Reading, exporting and deleting existing threads do not require an active subscription. Exported files and operating-system backups remain under your control.
Threads have separate context by default. Bringing context from another thread copies only the snapshot you review and approve.
